Team Bios

Jim has a B.A. in Radio, Television & Film, Production. He is a photographer, cinematographer, producer & director specializing in the creation of online video content. He got his start in the production industry 15 years ago shooting, editing and eventually producing for the family business, Showcase Video Productions.

Jim has worked on countless projects since including music videos, corporate videos, training videos and feature films. Jim has produced over a dozen short films, served as Director of Photography on a few more.

Jim co-produced the multi-award winning feature film, Between Floors.  He also won accolades at numerous competitions for his work as cinematographer on the short film “eRaticate.”  Jim is post-production supervisor to the feature documentary, Light of Congo.  Jim is constantly looking forward to his next collaborative creative endeavor working closely with his team, whether a 30-second spot helping a locally owned business share their story with visitors to their website, or a two hour documentary hoping to bring food and peace to a remote village in Africa.

Paul Alvarado-Dykstra, producer, is the Central Texas Representative of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA), the statewide industry advocacy organization for film, television, commercial and video game makers (txmpa.org).  He is also co-founder of Fantastic Fest (named one of Variety’s ten favorite film festivals in the world; fantasticfest.com), and Ain’t It Cool, Inc. (aintitcool.com). He has worked with award-winning filmmakers Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) and Tim McCanlies (The 2 Bobs, Secondhand Lions), Emmy-winning producer Scott Carter (Real Time With Bill Maher) and Oscar-nominated documentarian Frances Reid (Long Night’s Journey Into Day). Most recently, he executive produced Jen White’s debut feature Between Floors (Winner of countless accolades on the festival circuit). He also serves as Vice President of Villa Muse, an innovative, over 1, 000-acre mixed-use development planned for 2012, which will be anchored by Villa Muse Studios – a new nexus for the creative industries in Texas, offering comprehensive, globally competitive production and post facilities for film, television, commercials, music, video games and animation. John Elder, camera & editor, is an Emmy and Hugo award winning producer.  He holds a B.A. in Radio, Television with emphasis on video production.   John served as executive producer for the regional PBS series alt.news 26:46 in Illinois before moving to Austin, Texas to join the AHD team.  John is a proficient Final Cut editor, camera operator and brings to Austin HD youthful energy and an alternative perspective creatively.  He is also the writer, director of the awkwardly funny short, “Love Circuits” and is currently finishing the script for his first feature.

He enjoys each and every project he pursues, from the creative to the commercial, entertaining and educational.  John is focused on seeing projects through to completion as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality of work.

Peggy Maxson is the founder of Austin HD. Growing up in and around the entertainment industry she brings a lifetime of experience in creative processes and a dedication to assisting others see their dreams through to reality. Peggy founded Austin HD as a company dedicated to assisting Texas filmmakers in the pursuit of seeing their artistic vision become a reality by providing them with well-maintained production equipment at affordable prices, making it possible for visionaries unable to secure funding to get their projects made.  She later grew the company into a boutique production firm in partnership with Jim Walters, with a desire of helping Austin businesses by producing high quality content at affordable rates.

Through Peggy’s generosity, Austin HD supports the arts community at large through contributions to entities such as the Texas Motion Picture Alliance, and helping to fund exhibitions such as the “Making Movies” installation at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas.

Peggy will be forever be regarded as the amazingly wonderful Austinite that “started it all.”  She is available as a creative contributor on select projects and continues to represent the company as it’s founding visionary.
